My gateway:
Pentium II 400 MHz
128 MB ram
60 GB Harddrive

Where to start... It's running:
- samba
- proftpd
- apache + php
- sendmail
- imapd
- fetchmail
And I'm probably forgetting a thing or two..

And to top that; 98% of the cpu goes to seti@home.

As Deon said; try that on a M$ machine, no way it'll run fluently, or even have idle time at all (even if you cut of the seti ;-)).
