I tried mounting NFS, while the nfsd was behind a firewall. Once, to make it work i had to open the whole firewall as i was desperate.
Today again, after seeing ...
nfsd: RPCPROG_NFS: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to send
...i searched, again, which pointed to firewall. But since nfsd and sunrpc ports were already open i was quite puzzled. Later after reading the mountd(8) man page, again, i realized that i need to set port for mountd to use and in firewall to open. After doing that, there were no problems in mounting NFS.
(Client was 4.11-p2 & server 5.3-p8.)
Also, in 5.x i get the IP address via dhclient just fine but in 4.x i have to do it manually even though dhclient runs after boot. So, that did not help much, both times.
