 Fetch Operation timedout
Author: southtowestco

Hi,

I am fairly new to freebsd I installed it one time before on one of my machines and now I want to make it my primary desktop. I installed 5.3 release onto a 120 gig i386 machine and everything seemed to work fine. My problem is when I try and go into any port under the /usr/ports and do

&& make && make install && make clean the fetch comes up and proceeds to look for the ports say http://lynx.com/port but times out and then looks for the same port under the ftp:/freebsd/port/lynx timing out there also. I have used the stable-supfile updating my system and everything seems current but I still can`t seem to download any ports from any location under /usr/ports.

Also, when I try to use package add it times out too could it be because I am using a dsl qwest connection which has it`s own firewall and if this is soo where would I make the changes in order to have fetch use passive mode for all the ports in the /usr/ports collection
