 pppoe or ...

i'n not exactly sure what protocol to use for my dsl. my isp doesn't require me to auth when i connect all they gave me was a ip, gateway, and dns servers. they also gave me a cd to install some stuff for windows but i never bothered. the dsl is working and i don't want a bunch of crap on my computer.

my question is do i still use pppoe, and in doing so do i ignore the example in the handbook about the ddial with my usr and pass. do i use ppp_nat or can i use natd.

ppp has always given me problems. just wondering if there was a way around it.

it sounds like they don't use pppoe you don't have to worry about your case it is just a normal ethernet connection.

If you are using static IP's, chances are you just use your ethernet card rather than pppoe.

Ran into the same thing when i switched from dynamic to static..i totaly didn't realize that once they built the routes on the ISP's side, everything was just routed right to my dsl circuit and i didn't need to ppp anymore
