I got Skype working today on FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE on my IBM ThinkPad T41. Here are the mixer settings I used:
[dan@laptop:~] $ mixer
Mixer vol is currently set to 75:75
Mixer pcm is currently set to 99:99
Mixer line is currently set to 75:75
Mixer mic is currently set to 100:100
Mixer cd is currently set to 75:75
Mixer rec is currently set to 80:80
Mixer igain is currently set to 98:98
Mixer ogain is currently set to 50:50
Mixer line1 is currently set to 75:75
Mixer phin is currently set to 0:0
Mixer phout is currently set to 0:0
Recording source: mic
[dan@laptop:~] $
And to get the settings changed:
mixer igain 98
mixer rec 80
etc
