We are currently uing MySQL for a production database and I have been trying to beat in the developers the use of the similar EXPLAIN there...

FWIW MySQL 4 now has subselects... and I didnt know that PostgreSQL had the cascading stuff

We are about to commence a systems review for the next major version and this article will be grist for the mill.

I used mySQL for a long time. I stopped using mySQL for FreshPorts because mySQL did not support stored procedures, triggers, and relational integrity items such as foreign keys. That is why I went to PostgreSQL which has these items.

Regardless of whether or not mySQL has caught up, I see no reason to move back.
