 Compressed logs work just fine.

If sending rotated logs to Analog or Webalizer, it's simple enough to uncompress them beforehand. Analog includes an UNCOMPRESS option.

UNCOMPRESS *.gz,*.Z "gzip -cd"

For those without gzip (or those who don't want the extra arguments), use zcat instead.

I've never seen the piping problems as described.
