I like to keep my mails in a maildir on my home computer also, so I can use the same mails from mutt(ng) and the graphical clients. There is a nice program in ports that keeps a (local) maildir and a (remote) imap-account in sync. It's called offlineimap. Maybe a nice addition to the above setup.
