Are you running an ftp server other than the default in inetd? proftpd? some other ftp daemon?
Inetd isn't needed for much any more. If you aren't running anything from inetd, just kill it and edit your rc.conf to prevent it from starting at boot.
I only use it for the tftp server. everything else is replacable with a daemon.
until you know what you need or not, you can always comment everything out in inetd.conf and kill -HUP the pid, then if you find you need something, only uncomment its line.
