I did the usual searches on this (google, searching the diary) but have been unable to come up with a good answer that will also help other people.
I have a central Linux server running Squid (port 3128); also using PC-BSD 0.6 (freebsd with KDE) on a laptop with a static IP address on both sides.
The proper environment vars in tcsh are set in ~/.cshrc:
setenv FTP_PROXY http://10.0.0.5:3128/
setenv HTTP_PROXY http://10.0.0.5:3128/
' pkg_add -r ' works, but cvsup fails with a hostname lookup error:
Name lookup failure for "cvsup13.FreeBSD.org": Host name lookup failed
Will retry at 14:24:59
--I got around it by temporarily installing an additional PCMCIA Ether card and bypassing the Squid server (long story) but there is another user on the PC-BSD forum that is having the same issue.
--Is there a way to update the ports tree using Squid? TIA.
