 mailbox.lock
Author: Gelboe

Hi,

I have a pop3 mail box setup. I can no longer connect to it to collect my mail and having looked on the server under the su account:

/var/mail/ls

the following appears:

mymailboxname
mynailboxname.lock

The mailbox has obviously been locked perhaps due to it reaching full capacity. Can anyone please advise on why this has occured and how it is best resolved.

I am fairly new to FreeBSD so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Gelboe

You might have a poplock that needs to be cleared. This usually occurs when 2 or more clients attempt to pop the account simultaneously.

Have you looked at the locked file to see what's there? You might be able to remove the .lock file which should clear up the problem.

Worst case, you can install lsof and see what processes have a hold on this file.
