 Firefox and FreeBSD + x-java-vm
Author: el_kab0ng

Another question that probably won'rt get answered... the dreaded x-java-vm plugin for Firefox on FreeBSD.

I have this .so file in a couple of different places, but all the documentation I see is "symlink it to your plugins dir.." well I DON'T HAVE A GODDAMNED PLUGIN DIR ON A USER LEVEL!

The plugin dir I have on FreeBSD for Firefox is:

/usr/X11R6/lib/firefox/lib/firefox-0.9.3/plugins/java2/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/X11R6/lib/firefox/lib/firefox-0.9.3/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/local/linux-sun-jdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Yet Firefox wants to be a whiney bitch and not see the plugin. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Muchos Gracias!

Ok, I am so much not an authority on FreeBSD, but is the file in a location specified in your path file?

Also, what permissions have you chmod the plugin file?

Good luck!

yeah. It's my path, and the perms are 777 for complete testing. It's just a matter of telling Firefox where it is... and I have no idea why it's not seeing it in the directory it resides in now.

sup fianna. I've taken a hiatus from FreeBSD for awhile until they can nail down the 5.0 series. Looks promising, but I'm still sticking with 4.10 for all my production machines.

As for firefox, I've pretty much given up with expecting it to play nice.

Heard all good things about 5.3.
