 how do I get a sound card working properly

I want to get my sound card working so I can listen to some jams while at work? how do I go about setting it up? is there any where I can find some documentation on it???

You need to rebuild your kernel...

read the handbook section on rebuilding your kernel...

You need to add support to your kernel and add some device files...

This whole process seems to be poorly documented in the BSD community.
