 Speed of VPN connection

Hi,

Are there limitations to the transfer speed while implementing a VPN solution?
Sorry for this dump question, but I wanted to clarify if this was such - there is a bandwidth limitation.

I'm sure there is... if the tunnel is encrypted/compressed/etc... however, I've run two different implementations (pipsecd, vtun - both in the ports) and haven't noticed a slowdown at all.

Now, my connections were limited on either end by 512kbs DSL, but it didn't slow at all... the boxes doing the VPN'ing are P120's...

It is affected if your tunnel is encrypted/compressed. Takes longer to process the packets... on slow machines (under P120) it slows down the speed by 1%... It's nothing major.
