 how to make ports ?

hi all, i found a perl-gtk script very interesting for me; it's a front-end to mencoder. It's for linux but with a little changes it works also for freebsd. This script needs of a little c program that is called lsdvd. I found the cc's options to compile lsdvd but the configure doesnt work. I'd like to port this script on fbsd that now work but i need how to create patch to configure... then my question is: there are some docs that explain how to ports (patch configure) software ?
thx :)
