Hi

I installed freebsd as a desktop machine with gnome+sawfish. I'm trying to get the sound to work.

I compiled my kernel with the following:

device pcm

After rebooting and entering xwindows, It still dosn't work.
I have a tyan board with sound built in. Any suggestions.

Best Regards

Aaron

Try grepping your dmesg output for pcm0 or something along those lines being found and recognized. Did you already ./MAKEDEV snd0 and/or mixer in /dev? If not that, try compiling option PNPBIOS into your kernel, it may then pick it up.

good luck.

Hi,

Try `dmesg | grep pcm`... You will see one or more devices (In my case 2: pcm0 for my onboard sound device and pcm1 for my Sound Blaster)...
Then go to /dev and, as root, try `sh MAKEDEV sndN`, where N is the number of the pcm device seen in dmesg... In my case, it was snd1...

Good Luck!
