Hi, I'm trying to set up a network in my house between many different platforms (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows) using a FreeBSD server and FTP. I'm wanting to know if there are any good tutorials out there for a newbie (I know how the command line works and how to set up the X Window System and that's about it) on how to set up the server and other things like that. I'm not connected to the Internet so I don't need to worry about registering a domain or anything like that. Can anyone provide advise or help or at least point me in a good direction?
PS- X keeps on dying on me with an error 12 (or maybe 11...). Does anyone know why?
Computer Specs:
HP Netserver 5/133
Pentium 133
Intel 440HX (I think) chipset
128 MB RAM
ATI Mach32 ISA video
Mylex RAID (960PL maybe)

There's about 25 articles on DNS in the Topics section of this webpage. Post the error message...a signal 11 can sometimes indicate a hardware problem, but a message would be helpful.

Strike the DNS part...I was looking at another post. But there are plenty of articles in the Topics section of this site. There are different FTP servers out there with varying degrees of security, bugs, etc and although this is just a local network, it's good practice to set up a secure server in case you decide to set it up
to the net.
