Hello,
1 - The pkg_version command says that my packages need upgrading. But how can I do that?
2 - What are the advantages of upgrading the system to a new version? Isn't just upgrading the ports tree and the software enough? How long does it takes to upgrade a slow system?
3 - I get a "Cannot open makefile. Error code 2" message when I try to install xmms-midi. What can I do?
Thanks!

Look for portupgrade on this website.

Read the release notes for the version you are upgrading to.

The ports tree is just your applications. It does not upgrade the operating system.

It depends. My guess: more than an hour. Less than a day. Depending on how well your first time goes. And what you are upgrading to/from.

What command did you issue? From what directory?

Hello,
I am upgrading my ports since 16:00 and I am still in the second port...
Isn't there a way to upgrade my software by packages?
And about the xmms-midi, I've tried "make install" at /usr/ports/audio/xmms-midi as root.
And another question: Is it wise to install 2 ports at the same time, or something could get wrong?
Thanks!

I recently upgraded from the 4.7 ISO distribution to -STABLE, the machine is a slow one, a 433Mhz Celeron with a 5400rpm HDD, the whole process of build/install world and the kernel took around 4 hours.
