 geFORCE4 MX 440 and freebsd
Author: Younes

Hello,

Did anyone manage to install and configure, the video card "geFORCE4 MX 440 from chaintech", on freebsd 4.7 release using XFree86 4.0.3 server ?

I actually have problems with the "depth", the resolution
seems to be 256 colour and no way to get more, even if i use
the last freebsd nvidia drivers or modyfing the XFree cofiguration file

Thanks for any help

What tool did you use to set up xfree86?

I have a nvidia tnt2 m64 and it did the same thing using Xfree86config. It gave me the same result, so I tried the ncurses based config tool (the next available choice in /stand/sysinstall in that Configure your Xfree86 Server), and gave it the info it wanted as I went along. I chose 16 bit colour depth & 1024X768 and bingo, it worked liked a charm.

Hope this helps.

Matt.

to be exact the name of the config file I'm talking about is:

xf86cfg -textmode (described in sysinstall as ncurses-based XFree86 configuration tool).
