Please paste the exact error and command. You say after "Make"... do you mean during the "make" command?

My initial guess is some DNS issue.

Hi Dan,
Thankx for quick respone,
Yes , I happens during "make" command.

If mmy problem with installing Mysql is with DNS;
and since my ISP not allow user provide "server services" so getting the name ofo BSD box with MySQL resolved is not an option.
I 've heard about running DNS name cache on LAN is a good idea but kinda pain in the "b***t" to me right now.
My object is to get MySQL, PHP and Apache installed on LAN for learning purposes. I hope that you guys can point me to the right solution.

It appears as if your hostname is configured correctly. Your hostname -> IP address just isn't working.

If you don't want to go about setting up DNS on your network, you can just use the /etc/hosts file.
The format is fairly simple. Here's a sample:
192.168.0.100 kalik.mydomain.org

Which just maps the hostname to an IP address. Keep in mind that modifying the /etc/hosts file will only properly map the hostname to IP address on the particular machine that the /etc/hosts file belongs to.

For the purposes of comparison, here is the output of the hostname and host commands on a properly configured FreeBSD workstation.

[robbie@kalik]$ hostname
kalik.mydomain.org

[robbie@kalik]$ host kalik.mydomain.org
kalik.mydomain.org has address 192.168.0.100

Best of luck,
Rob McLeod

Hi Folks,
Thanks again for great and quick responsiveness to my post.
I've taken all your advises to find ways to get Mysql installed on my FreeBSD box.....and it's still unsuccessful.

I know it is part of because of lack of my knowlegde about *nix*. Following is what happend from my recent try:

I've added 192.168.0.155 blahblah.localdomain
as my FreeBSD box in my imaginary network into /etc/hosts
I still get the same error code 1 while mmake install MySQL

$hostname
blahblah.localdomain
$host blahblah.localdomain
Host not found

$host -d blahblah.localdomain
long debugging message showing that my box do a query to ISP's DNS server and the server could not find domain named .localdomain

I did try a lil experimment as to set 192.168.0.155 blahblah.mydomain.com and do a
$ host blahblah.mydomain.com
blahblah.mydomain.com has ađress 216.34.94.184

it just ignore my imaginary private ađress bind to blahblah but return a reel ađress fơr a fully qualified domain existing out there.
So, I guess I 'm having DNS problem. For your žnfo that my home network is set up with 1 freeBSD box acting as gateway to cable internet. it serves ipfilter firewall for internal network with dhclient running to get my dyn IP. All box žn LAN are wins :( and :) with static internal IP and DNS's IP ađresses of ISP. ANd it is the same setup fơr my blahblah box otherwise it'd access internet. Is there anything wrong with my network config. I am practically not satified with the way my LAN set up but hey ...newbee on learning.
Two more things I'd like you to shred sơme light on:
*is it possible to keep existing LAN setup and do some work around to get MySQL + PHP + Apache žnstalled and running. If yes, please how?

*set up DHCP and DNS caching service will solve problem and wheather it works with dynDNS since I'll get lou.homeip.net bind to my dyn IP.

Thanking you all in advance.
Happy and safe newyear
