I'm running natd on FreeBSD at home to act as a router at home. There is actually nothing wrong with the machine it works great. The problem is with my roommate who has become addicted to Internet gambling. He has asked me to block the sites that he uses to gamble from our network. I can't seem to figure out how to block these sites. Please advise.

you could try using a proxy server and blocking them that way. unfortunately, they use port 80 so you need something that will allow normal access to regular sites, but deny specific sites... apache has a web proxy or you could try squid.

does all outgoin traffic run thru this machine?

if so you could find out the ip addresses for the sites and do a deny all rule in ipfw for those ips

hopefully he hasnt already gambled away the rent ;)

All outgoing traffic does run through this machine and I will try the deny all rule in ipfw. Thanks. BTW he actually claims that he is winning :)

deny all for what? do you want to knock him completely off the net or block his access to some sites...
use a proxy and prevent him directly accessing... don't even nat his system... just allow his address to access the proxy...

then you can have records of the sites he goes to and block 'em...

I've actually done quite a bit of reading and figured out how to block the sites via ipfw. My problem now is figureing out what ip and port the client for this gambling service is.
