Getting rid of MySql on a Raq server
Author: Les
Date:   19-08-00 16:33

I've read the page on MySql site and it's so confusing it's not really worth looking at. I've followed the instructions to the letter for both the mysql-3.22.32.tar.gz and for the 5 rpm files . I have tried to install this thing about 5 or 6 times and get a wonderful variety of error messages.

I have tried running configure and it runs OK and says:

creating config.h - ***this is the last line it writes***

MySQL has a Web site at http://www.mysql.com/ which carries details on the
latest release, upcoming features, and other information to make your
work or play with MySQL more productive. There you can also find
information about mailing lists for MySQL discussion.

Remember to check the platform specific part in the reference manual for
hints about installing on your platfrom. See the Docs directory.

Thank you for choosing MySQL!

Typing in the word 'make' makes it say this:

Not doing what it should I gather!
Any suggestions would be helpful, I could do with removing it completely and starting again? Duno....

The subject says getting rid of. But you seem to be trying to install.

the 5 rpm files? What OS are you using? Doesn't sound like FreeBSD to me.

Use the port. Always use the port.

First, get rid of what you have been trying to install and use the port. That will work.

cd /usr/ports/databases

you'll find mysql in there.

cd to that directory: make install

and it's done.
