 ULTRA DMA 66 IDE
Author: Robert Grone

I upgraded my motherboard to support the faster 66 drives. I noticed right away my kernel "exploded'. I attempted to reinstall with no success. I recieved write error messages. In general the statement was that bin was unable to extract to the drive. I upgraded to a newer drive. Nothing, same problem. Free did not know how to hanlde this interface. The chipset is VIA Apollo, which the kernel recognized, the system begins to load and then crashes. I check the drive geometry, all okay. Next I attempted to create additional slices to reduce the size of the logical drives, still nothing.

Is FreeBSD 4.0 compatible with the ULTRA DMA 66 interface/drives? If so what can I do to resolve this issue? Free installed fairly easily (with the exception of recognizing the AGP video properly) on my older motherboard that does not support ULTRA DMA 66.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. The one thing I don't need is another Windows "BOX"!!!!!!
