 Setting Up DSL Connection

I am having trouble getting FreeBSD to work with the settings provided by my ISP. My network card works, and the DSL works, the problem seems to be the FreeBSD routing table it generates. After setting up the network, the ip, the subnet, the gateway, during a clean install of FreeBSD 4.0, I cannot even ping the gateway, much less any part of the internet. It simply states "Network unreachable". I have gone in and taken out all the network /etc/rc.conf, and have tried to manually setup the connection using ifconfig and route with no sucess.

The settings provided by my ISP look like so:
Static IP on 209.183.109.159
netmask of 255.255.255.128
gateway of 207.2.124.254

How would I go about getting this to work with the settings above?

Are you sure you got the right settings from your ISP?
Usually the gateway and IP are in the same subnet, yours are not.
I tried pinging both ips, and they both respond. So, my guess is that they gave you the wrong ip, since it is already taken.
Btw, it resolves to ip209-183-109-159.as.indy.net..

These are the correct settings, as I am replacing an NT box that is currently doing the job (and keeps locking up).

The routing for the NT box looks like this:

Network Address Netmask Gateway Address Interface
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 207.2.124.254 209.183.109.159
127.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1
209.183.109.128 255.255.255.128 209.183.109.159 209.183.109.159

224.0.0.0 224.0.0.0 209.183.109.159 209.183.109.159


I don't know why the 224.0.0.0 address is in there....

It looks like one of the IP is for the DNS.

I think he's missing one set of IP.

224.0.0.0 is BASE-ADDRESS.MCAST.NET

No, not worried about name resolution (DNS) at this point, I just want to be able to ping a site on the internet, then I know it will work.

It is funny that NT and RedHat 6.2 have no problems with this network setup .
