Moving Mailboxes from /var/mail to $home/mail
Author: Thomas Ngo
Date:   28-06-00 20:11

Some of our users are starting to use up a lot of space for their mail boxes. Anyone figured out a way to move the mail box to their home directory? Using FreeBSD 3.4 Stable. Any help would be great!

Have you tried moving the files and creating a symbolic link? There might be a better way.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I get the following message.

Jun 29 13:49:44 xxx sendmail[13022]: NAA13021: to=<xxx@xxx.com>, ctladdr=<xxx@xxx.com> (1002/1002), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=local, relay=local, stat=Service unavailable

I can't make a hardlink either because /var and /home directories is on another filesystem. Is there any reason why freebsd have mail hardcoded somewhere that makes mailboxes always point to /var/mail? I have tried procmail as well but, I would have to recompile qpopper and imap too... I guess I would have to go that route then. Thanx

Upgrade to Sendmail 8.10.x - this feature is configurable via the mc4 file.

See http://www.sendmail.org/compiling.html
