 IBM Thinkpad 390 and X11R6

I have an IBM Thinkpad 390, I have no Idea what video card i have installed. I am running at 640x480 with what i believe is 16 colors. Is there any way I can set up as a Generic VGA card and be able to run at 800x600 and something better than 16 colors?

if it's a stock model of the 390, it should have a NeoMagic or compatable video chipset. that selection should be available in the X configuration program.
