My main drive (ad0s1) is failing (contains / , /usr, and swap space. The system just starts hanging only recoverable by hard shutdown and power-up. Luckily, I haven't been dropped to single-user mode yet on reboot. fsck on / reveils 0.2% fragmentation, on /usr gives 0.3% fragmentation. I first noticed it last week when i got a message saying ad0s1 failed using ATA33 and was reverting back to PIO4 (not the exact message...sorry can't remember). Since then it has been locking and giving WRITE timeouts.
Anyone experienced this before? i've backup the accounts in /usr/home but would prefer to transfer everything over to a new drive if possible.
Any suggestion would be helpful, I'm not sure how long she'll hold out.

I've just read the tutorials -sorry. If anyone has any words of wisdom about the process, please let me know. i would very interested in small hang-ups that may occur, so I'm not surprised.
please, if you don't have anything helpful, don't comment. I'm admiting I goofed by not reading the tuts first. That means please don't respond with some smart-ass comment about reading the tuts first. It won't help. It was my bad, I admit it. Thanks.

There are a couple of articles about creating new drives.
Under topics/File Systems, I found these:
