I have just upgraded to 4.3-BETA and now I can't su to root in a console under X. The logs keep showing an error like 'BAD SU joey to root at ttyp1'.
However, I can login as root at a plain console (not under X).
Anyone know how can I fix this? There must be a config file that allows root to login on ttyp's? Many thanks.

I'm not sure if this is the problem and it sounds like you can su at the regular console. But check your /etc/group file, and make sure that the user is in the wheel group.

Thanks, but that's not the problem, my regular user is already a member of wheel. Also, I changed /etc/ttys and added 'secure' to the ttyp entries (supposedly that allows root to login to ttyp) but that didn't help. Anyone have any ideas? If not, I'll just make world back to 4.2-STABLE.

I've read of a problem with this on KDE 2.1, I believe it has
something to do with the magic cookie authorization, but I don't
have the fix with me. If you are using KDE you might want to check
their website and/or mailing lists

YEs sir..
Login to KDE desktop manager and under applications i tink!!! anyways the top one in account manager for KDE desktop ..make sure user belongs to the group!!!]
WHEEL im assuming ;)
And if its still messy..goto KDE sites ..too bad there arent many Error Messages posted for Freebsd..
Everyone should make a memo and post it online where any errors they encounter with short Detailed Events that lead them to correct/solve/solution what ever you wanna call it !!1 doh...
so it becomes more aware!!
