 using myCd-writer with freebsd

how can i get my cd-writer to work with freebsd? it is a pacific digital cdwriter(internal IDE). right now linux sees it as "SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-408B, ATAPI CDROM DRIVE". i'm looking into replacing linux with freebsd as my desktop OS, but i need the cd-writer to work as well as my sound card. if anyone can help me with the cd-writer it would be really helpful. thanks
