 port installation after upgrade
Author: Roman Serbski

Hi all!

I have one question concerning port installation after upgrading ports tree.
I use FreeBSD 4.2 STABLE powered by MySQL 3.23.28gamma (compiled from ports) with couple of databases.
I'd like to install MySQL 3.23.32, so I upgraded my ports tree and got MySQL 3.23.32.
The question is:
May I just install new MySQL port without uninstalling old one? Normally, I will "mysqldump" all databases. But, should I uninstall old MySQL before installation?

Thank you

Roman

When installing a new port, you should always remove the old port. Use pkg_info to find the old port name. Then use pkg_delete to remove that port.
