 Proxy & Ports
Author: James Moger

Right now my FreeBSD box sits behind a simple little Windows proxy server. I want to be able to use the ports (make; make install) portion to keep my box up-to-date. I set the http_proxy and ftp_proxy environment settings to use my dumb little Windows proxy - those work fine - but I am having difficulty making "fetch" use the proxy settings. The FTP authentication is a little weird - I have to FTP to the proxy IP address and when it asks for my username I enter: The proxy server parses the username to get the actual FTP site to connect to. I am looking for ideas on how to make the ports section work for the described setup - I am NOT going to change my network setup and put the FreeBSD box as the proxy server - I
am looking for creative solutions/corrections to my setup. Any ideas?

Setup your bsd machine as the lan gateway. Windows is not made to be a server platform.

I agree with DarkElf. I think your life will be easier if you make your BSD box your gateway and put your Windows box behind it. That's what I do.
