 Problems to setup emails
Author: piotrek

I have a FreeBSD 7.2 server which I use only as HTTP server for my domain. The DNS is somewhere else and it is configured to route all email traffic for my domain to Google Apps.

The problem is that whenever I send an email to my own domain from the server itself (i.e. using php or "mail" command) it does not really send it to the google's server, but rather tries to send the email locally (to iself).

Can anyone please give me a hint what to change to always send emails outside, regardless of the address after "@"?

I also have another question which is sort of related. Some mail servers refuse to accept emails from my server's mail deamon since the SMTP port is not open.
Is it possible to send emails via some other SMTP server (i.e. smtp.gmail), instead of sending them directly to the destination address?

It helps if you tell us what SMTP software you are using on your FreeBSD server.
