It is always a good idea to copy/paste what you are doing so we can see the errors.

Umm, you said "i try and i get the error AUTH command not enabled on my SMF forum. Uhh... wtf?"

We have no idea what you tried.

For us to diagnose a problem, we have to see what you did. To date, you've said "this doesn't work" without describing what "this" is.

It's like telling a doctor, I don't feel well, without giving any detail and expecting to be healed.

... lol.
Ok so in my forum, i added the data that my SMTP section.
Whenever the forum tries to send an email, this gets put into the forums logs (havent checked the actual server logs yet... the forum keeps its own logs):
Ran into problems sending Mail. Error: 533 5.7.1 AUTH command is not enabled.

TBH, i believe its a ports compilation problem. but i don't know which one, and googleing has brought up nothing.

What, precisely, did you add?

Ports compilation? You're not using FreeBSD....

K im starting to get a lil frustrated, but i guess thats my fault, due to lack of info.
Heres what i add in my Forum to the SMTP section. The forum is SMF run, http://www.iamentity.com to check it out.
i gave the server into the server field, shawmail.gv.shawcable.net
entered the user and pass into their fields
left the port to 25.

Shaw told me this should work.

And yes... -_- i AM using FreeBSD or i would not be posting here. I use 6.2. What i meant was that something was wrong or an option not added when i compiled the server programs form the ports tree in /usr/ports/...

Yes. It is. But identifying the problem and its cause is the first step. We're not finished that yet.

I suggest you need to talk to the SMF people.

Well, I have no idea what SMF is or how it works. So far, this does not seem to be a FreeBSD problem but an SMF problem.

Now, if the mail server you are running does not have AUTH compiled in (I think you suggest that), then we may be able to help.

I was confusing you with another person who just talked about AUTH in another thread... I thought you were that person.
