Hi there...

i have problem on file system / directory, i am trying to write some thing on /etc/mail but i got write faild, the df command said that the root (/) directory is 107%, i am trying to free space but i cannot find where exactly i can found these files, this server is working as Mail Gateway server and runs Mailscanner and SpamAssassin and sendmail, so please any idea about where is the files should be freed on / directory

Try this command:

du -hd1c

h = human readable sizes
d1 = just give me the totals for depth 1
c = give me a total at the end

This will give you the amount of space used in each directory in the current working directory. For exampe:

[root@ngaio:/] # du -hd1c
2.0K ./.snap
1.5K ./dev
14K ./tmp
8.5G ./usr
41M ./var
1.6M ./etc
2.0K ./cdrom
2.0K ./dist
898K ./bin
64M ./boot
3.2M ./lib
270K ./libexec
2.0K ./mnt
2.0K ./proc
3.2M ./rescue
92K ./root
3.8M ./sbin
8.6G .

That's from a FreeBSD 6.0 box.
