Here is a more direct question:

Should the "add" in the configuration file match the external IP address of my VPN server, or the internal one?

My sys admin gave me an IP address to tunnel to (which works for Mac OS X and Linux, btw, using PPTPConfig) but once inside, if I ping the server by name, I get an internal network address.

So, as an example, externally I connect to 1.2.3.4 while internally the value is more like 10.1.1.1 (not really, but something like that).
