Open Source Weekend, Day 1

PICTURE DESCRIPTION
I spent the first day of the Open Source weekend at the University of Ottawa Linuxfest. This event, coordinated by the Computer Science Students' Association was an immense success. It included linux / open-source related talks, an installfest, and some trade show booths. Here is the OEone booth, with Eddie Vlasblom telling the crowd about OEone's Homebase line of products.
Mostafah Hosseini, Jesse Ruppel, and Eddie Vlasblom at the OEone booth. Their t-shirts say "Everyone looks better in a tux".

The php|architect booth. They're an electronic magazine about PHP, based out of Toronto.
Nancy Cote at the Algonquin College booth.
David F. Skoll of Roaring Penguin giving a talk about mail filtering with Sendmail and Milter.
David's an expert in this area, having written MIMEDefang and CanIT.

Several OCLUG members chat and work on a Debian-PPC install: Liam Howlett, Mike Roy, Kyle McMartin, and Julien LaMarche.
The BSD booth, run by members of OCUUG and people from the various BSD distros were busy giving out free stuff, demoing their operating systems, and chatting with curious people.
I took a couple of picture-of-someone-taking-a-picture pictures here with one of the BSD people.
Somewhere out there, there's a picture of me taking a picture too...
Pat Wendorf from Sudbury helps Shane get FreeBSD installed. Shane actually came to get Linux installed, but the Linux people weren't ready yet.... they forgot to bring the software. So Shane decided to install FreeBSD instead.

Now we start acting like goofs.
Arno getting a little too excited, but rightly so as this event has been a tremendous success.
Jim Elliot of IBM Canada giving his Linux and Open Source: Changing the Game talk.
Jim Elliot.
Always an entertaining speaker, Jim shared many success stories of IBM's usage of Linux and open source software.

After the Linuxfest, many people headed across the street for pizza, drinks, and of course free swag! Here's Arno getting ready to give out a bunch of Revolution OS DVDs and books.
OCLUG members celebrate with pizza, pop, and beer.
Pat Paquette passes Peter Bojanic a copy of Revolution OS.
Arno and Pat hand out the remaining copies of the DVD.
Later in the evening, a bunch of us went over to Mike Kenzie's place to start setting up the Open Source Office Network demo for the BOSS conference tomorrow. But before we got to work, we had a tour of Mike's amazing basement, full of interesting old computer equipment. This is just one tiny corner of his collection.

Bart Trojanowski concentrating hard on getting his machines running properly.
Dana gets the Windows machine ready (yeah yeah...we need it to show that Linux can interact with Microsoft!)
